John Hunnewell
BIRTH: ABT. 1651, Maine DEATH: BEF. 5 AUG 1706, Middleton Conn Cause of death (2): Apparently lost at sea MARRIAGE: Middleton Conn
born about 1649, probably at Saco, Maine, the second son of Roger and Bridget Hunnewell. He moved around before the King Philip’s War and fought at Berwick on May 12, 1674. He rode out of York on a Sunday some two months later. The next record found of him was in 1677 as a seaman, whereby he had a sloop at Salem, Massachusetts. This was 15 years before the infamous Salem witch trials.
John then moved on to Wethersfield, Connecticut where he was married to his first wife, Lydia Edwards, on January 1st, 1680. In Wethersfield, he purchased some land with a saw mill, and in March 1680 was granted some more land to make and burn bricks. John and Lydia had a daughter named Mary on December 10, 1682. Lydia died eight months later on August 10, 1683 of an undisclosed cause.
John worked in Wethersfield for a time as a surveyor or roads and then moved in 1689 to Middlefield, Connecticut, where he married his second wife, Elizabeth Harris, daughter of Capt. Daniel and Mary (Weld) Harris. John and Elizabeth had four children, Abial, Elizabeth, John, and Bridget. In 1692, then a brick maker, he purchased his father’s land at Winter Harbor from his brother, Richard on December 10, 1692. Eight days later he sold the land to a John Stainford of Ipswich, MA.
John died before August 5, 1706, when he was referred to as deceased in a guardianship proceeding in behalf of his daughter Bridget. Elizabeth died before December 4, 1710, when administration on her estate was granted to John Honeywell, the only son, who received a double portion, and his sisters each a single portion. Unknown when Roger came to New England, or from what part of England he departed, although tradition indicates he came from Devonshire, England. He probably arrived with his wife Bridget in Boston before settling north in what is now Maine, finally residing in Scarborough, ME, then called Black Point.

Together they had eleven children.

Captian Thomas Harris
BIRTH: ABT. 1580, Hatherup, Gloucester, England DEATH: Apr 11, 1634, Charlestown, Mass
MIGRAT ION: 1630 FIRST RESIDENCE: Winnissimmett OCCUPA TION: Ferryman. On 18 May 1631 "Tho[mas] Will[ia]ms hath undertaken to set up a ferry betwixt Winnettsem[e]t & Charlton, for which he is to have after 3d. a person, & from Winnettsem[e]t to Boston 4d. a person" [ MBCR 1:87].
FREEMANSHIP: Requested October 1630 (as "Thomas Will[ia]ms alias Harris") and admitted 18 May 1631 (as "Thomas Williams") [ MBCR 1:80, 366].
In 1630 he brought his wife, Elizabeth Hills, and his six children to Salem, Ma. on the "LYON", an early part of the WINTHROP FLEET. He is listed among the passengers of the ship "Lyon" as Thomas Williams alias Harris and continued to use the name "Thomas Williams alias Harris" in later records. It is not known why he used an alias but there is the possibility that for some personal reason affecting his proposed immigration it was advisable to assume a new name. His children, however, appear to have immediately dropped the "Williams" name that Thomas used and did not stay long in the Boston area.
On October 19, 1630, as Thomas Williams ALIAS Harris, he applied to the court to be made a freeman of the colony. On that same day the court recorded that Thomas Williams "hath undertaken to set up a ferry betwixt Winnettsem & Charlestown".
Thomas and Elizabeth brought 5 sons and a daughter with them on their voyage from England. John (1606-1694), Anthony(1610-1651), William(1611-1714), Anne(1613-1697), Thomas(1618-1687) and Daniel(1618-1701).
Thomas Harris passed away shortly after starting his ferry(on or before 1634) and before land and wills were filed. William Stitson married his widow Elizabeth and continued the operation of the ferry. Elizabeth Hills (Williams alias Harris) Stilson died in Charlestown* February 16, 1670 at the age of ninety-three, which would place her date of birth at 1578 or 1579.
