Mary McIllhenney
Birth: ABT 1709 Vanover, Dauphin, PA Death:1796 Cabarrus Co., NC
Two girls who may have been Ezekiel's daughters (or perhaps nieces) married two brothers: Jane married Charles Harris, and Mary married James Harris. (the girls' name was spelled McIlhenny.) Charles and James belonged to a large family who were thought by the North Carolina genealogist, Worth Ray, to have followed a path from Somerset Co. Md to Cecil Co. at the forks of the Elk River. There they joined the Alexander and other Scotch Irish families, migrating to Mecklenburg Co. NC.
A man named Ezekiel McIlhenny of Mt. Joy Twp in York Co PA made a will at some point in the 18th century. He had a son, Robert, and very likely a number of other children.
In 1748 a warrant in Drummore Twp of Lancaster Co. PA was issued to Ezekiel McKlehenny adj. 'his old tract'. It adjoined "Andrew Callwell's' land, and also John McConnell. Robert McElehenny had also received a warrant in Drummore Twp in 1745. It fell to Robert Clark in 1809.
In 1762 Ezekiel McElhanny of Drumore twp took a mortgage on a conveyance of Gabriel Scott to William Collins (dead book H page 85: 1762 Colerain twp. William Collins of Colerain twp mortgage to Ezekel McElhanny of Drumore twp (Gabriel Scott to Collins date n.s.)
According to some published records of Rev. Joseph M. Harris there were actually three McIlhenny girls who married into his family. Mary and Jane married two of the sons of Robert and Dorothy Wylie Harris. Robert's nephew, another Robert Harris (1702-88) about 1744 in Litterkenny, Donegal, Ireland married Margaret McElmon (Rev. Harris gives three other spellings for her name, one of which is McIlhenny. Robert and Margaret are both buried at Rocky River in the part of Mecklenburg Co. that became Cabarrus Co. NC.

Archibald > Samuel(1750-1793)> Samuel(1726-1785)> William (1690-1743)
Archi had an older brother (or a father) named Samuel. They appear to have both been in the War of 1812. They signed up in Ohio, records indicate they may have been captured in the battle of Detroit. Documentation has now been found for what we believe to be earlier years of Archibald's life. Parents: Samuel Smith and Mary Ruddle (vs Riddle as had been earlier thought). Birth year was most likely 1792. This date is shown in US and International Marriage Records, 1560-1900 on Ancestry; land grant lists his age as 57 on Dec. 25, 1850; and on 1850 Census record his age is listed as 58. In the Library of VA Archives list of War of 1812 Pay Rolls and Muster Rolls in the Electronic Card Indexes, Card #23 PR138 there is Archibald Smith. Archibald Smith was captured by the Indians in the War of 1812 and traded to the British at Detroit with his brother Samuel.. History of Delaware County, Indiana, Hamilton Township records that in 1834 "..Daniel Smith and Archibald Smith purchased lands in Section 14". Archibald and sons/families were among the earliest settlers in Livingston/Grundy Counties, Missouri. In 1839 Archibald and family members located claims in Mercer County. He left a will dated "the Eighteenth day of July in the year of our Lord, One Thousand Eight Hundred and Fifty-seven"

Rachel Stewart
B: 1737 Berkeley Co, WV D: 1821 Knox Co, Ohio
a Letter of Dismission filed 10Sep 1785 for Elizabeth Ashcraft. Historical records support ELIZABETH as Ichabod's WIFE, NOT RACHAEL. Rachel was Elizabeth's SISTER - Read Court transcript of distribution of Ichabod's estate gives RACHAEL as WIDOW. She was awakened by the call of a turkey gobbler. She told her husband that she believed she would go out and kill it. Her husband said she had better not, it might be an Indian. The call was repeated, and then out came the head of an Indian to see if anyone was stirring in the Fort. She quietly took down her trusty rife, and the next time he gave the call and protruded his head, from behind the tree, she sent a bullet through his head, striking him square between the eyes. Ashcraft's Fort was built at the crossing of two Indian Trails. At this crossroads suicides were buried, in conformity with an old English custom. It is said that the Indian shot by Mrs. Ashcraft was interred at this place. She moved to Ohio in 1808.
